Takes a while, but you'll whittle down their numbers fast enough. Once your guys have exhausted their supply of ammo just retreat then go siege it again. Helps if your character is decent at ranged combat too.
If you have a bunch of veteran archers or crossbowmen you can get away with assaulting at a 2-1 disadvantage - just park your guys outside the walls & have them fire away at enemies. They'll sally forth if you're too outnumbered (something like 3-1) so unless your army consists of top tier troops only you want to avoid situations like that. Third, for castle assaults, what's a good rule of thumb as to when to attempt them solo, numbers-wise? 1.2x the number of defenders (I play on easy, 1/2 damage to me, 3/4 to allies)?ĭepends on the kind of army you're fielding really, along with what the defenders have.
