(Still, we could find black soul gems and leftovers from rituals when exploring the hideouts and altars of necromancers, which would confirm my original belief that they make use of black souls to raise the dead.) I also thought that the ritualistic part (of necromancy) of trapping/ binding a soul to a dead body, was left out for gameplay reasons. And I thought that the defilement of someone's corpse only made the practice worse, in the eyes of the public. I've tried to read up on necromancy in order to understand the rituals involved, and to understand which parts of it are morally contested and which parts of it are morally 'accepted'.įirst I thought necromancy was hated -first and foremost- because necromancers trap and use black souls in order to (permanently?) raise their undead.
